a note to faith leaders

Dear Pastors and Rabbis,

We know your life.

While leading a flock is fulling and invigorating as you pour yourself into peoples’ lives, it is at times overwhelming and exhausting as well. We don’t want you to feel like we’re asking you to add one more brick to your load and twisting your arm to sign the Invested Covenant.

If you are already providing six or more hours of premarital preparation with your couples, we salute you. Thank you for your demonstrated commitment to marriage. If for whatever reason you are not providing a minimum of six hours right now, you’re probably wondering how in the world you could fit in this extra time commitment into an already overstuffed schedule. (We’ve been there when one of the folks in your flock has a “great program or ministry you should do”. We get it.) We encourage you think about seeking out a counselor or other qualified individual to lead your couples through some marriage preparation materials that you are comfortable with. Following these sessions, you can then meet with the couple to discuss the ceremony and add your influence as you are already doing now. Your local body and this new family will be healthier for it, without adding to your current responsibilities.

We can’t say enough about the Prepare-Enrich assessment tool as an option for you to consider. On their web site there is a search feature that allows you to locate certified leaders by zip code, and you or the couple can select from those certified administrators in your area. Heck, if you’re located close enough to us, we’d be humbled to partner with you.

We know there are other reputable materials around as well. You could even select a healthy married couple in your church or synagogue to lead “your” curriculum. They can be a Mini-You!

We sincerely hope we will be together Invested.
